FOOTWORK is a bamboo, rope, wire, and fans sculptural work that uses the metaphor of the boxing ring to question notions of identity and place. By drawing a double reference to the athletic footwork of boxing while substituting the fighters with ordinary oscillating stand fans who trade "blows", and the dance footwork of tinikling while immobilizing the instrumental bamboo poles via tight rope lashings, the work complicates an understanding of belonging and community.
